Guestbrewing @ Nøgne Ø in January!

In late january 2008 I will travel to Grimstad in Norway to brew two batches of Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast, which has been sold out worldwide for quite some time now....!
Allready beeing in Grimstad, Kjetil - the head brewer of Nøgne Ø - asked me to do a guestbrew with him. Together we have been working on a recipe for a pretty special brew.... :-)

Finally...the Mikkeller glass!

Finally it's here...the Mikkeller glass! I've been wanting to make a Mikkeller glass for quite some time now but wanted it to be 100% perfect. I've been looking all over Denmark for the right shape of glass but couldn't find anything that satisfied me. The I got the idea....why not go for the creater of my favorite glass from my favorite brewery De Dolle Boruwers in Belgium??! And in Belgium I found it!!

Monday the 19th of November I drove to Ørbæk with my good friend Henrik to brew 60 HL of Jackie Brown. The next day she went down with a bad stomach....... :-)

Guest brew at Nørrebro Bryghus

Saturday November 11th I brewed a guest brew at Nørrebro bryghus in Copenhagen, Denmark. Together with Anders we planned on brewing the strongest, wildest, crazyest beer ever brewed in Denmark .....so far! We called in Steen Aastrup from Novozymes to help us realize this crazy brew...! On ØJ day November 1st 2007 the TV show 'Aftenshowet' on DR1 rated 5 X-mas beers.
Santa's Little Helper 2007 was the only one of the danish micros getting 5 out of 5!!!

On the brewday of Hvedegoop Nick opened up the last bottle of Barrel Aged Dark Lord. As we turned our backs to the glasses the devil grabbed one of them and poured it into the Hvedegoop wort.....! Maybe it will show in the final beer...?! (click picture)

Mikkeller announcing the Winner!!

The ‘name the next Mikkeller Pale Ale’ contest is over.
We received about 300 suggestions – most of them very good, which made the decision extremely hard.
But after long consideration we found a winner:

Mikkeller All Others Pale

The winner explained this interpretation: as in all others pale in comparison.

We found that the name is provocative enough to name a Mikkeller beer and it is perfectly in line with what we wanted.

Thanks to everybody who participated in the contest.

Eben from Washington D.C. will receive a case of Mikkeller All Others Pale when it hits the U.S. market early next year. Congratulations!!!!

Visiting Flossmoor Station, Illinois

I just returned from a great trip to the U.S. More on this later, but first a little report on brewpub Flossmoor Stations blog. My brother Kasper and I visited this great little brewpub in Illinois during our trip and meet assistant brewer Andrew (mid picture) and Tom. We were showed the brewpub brewhouse and brewceller and the beginning of a future bottle store nearby. We also sampled a lot of Flossmoor's brews including a number of their wonderfull barrel aged stuff. Thanks guys!! (click picture)

Mikkeller have decided to brew a Pale Ale for after New Years. All those sweet and heavy X-mas beers makes you drool for light hoppy ales so now it’s the time to get moving. Everything is set for this beer, besides the name and this is where we need your help: Name this beer and win a full case of it when it hits the stores. For the first time ever a Mikkeller beer was avaialable from cask....and what a beer! The video shows Fut - a great friend of Mikkeller - pouring a sample of 'Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast Pooh Coffee Dry Hopped Cask Festival Edition 2007' (is this the longest name in the world of a beer??). This special edition festival only version of Beer Geek Breakfast contained freshly ground coffee that had travelled trough the intestinal system of a vietnamese weasel!!!

Drinking very Young lambic in Belgium......

Even though I'm a great great fan of belgian lambic, I had a not so great experience with this 'Champagne of beer'!
During my latest visit to Belgium I went with some friends to one of the old traditional lambic cafes in Payottenland. Here we were served very young lambic (tasted like it was only a couple weeks old.....!). The fluid substance was very grainy and tasted something like thin orange juice mixed with mash.....! Beer website beertutor.com has listed the top 100 beers in the world with the highest IBU (International Bitterness Units). It is no surprise that our X Hop Juice 2007 IBU served exclusively at the Danish Beer Festival in Valbyhallen, Copenhagen in May 2007 takes the no. 1 spot! (click picture)

Mikkeller @ Kulminator, Antwerp!

Mikkeller is the first danish brewery to sell it's beer to cult-bar Kulminator in Antwerp, Belgium in almost 20 years!!!

At this years beer festival in Copenhagen in May our stand was quite busy all day during friday and saturday. Specially when serving the X beers the crowd was huge......!

This it what it looked like when I this weekend created our hop-experiement 'X Hop Juice 2007 IBU' for the annual beerfestival in Valby Hallen, Copenhagen, Denmark. Mikkel(ler) trip to Belgium february 2007

I just returned from a great trip to Belgium with Peter (helper at Ølbutikken) to brew a new Mikkeller beer at the Proef Brouwerij and meet up with the great Struise Brouwers (picture(l-r): Carlo, Urbain and Phil) to sample the first test batches of a future Struise/Mikkeller beer, which will be a crossing between a strong belgien blond Struise style and an IIPA Mikkeller style!!
